Simone Arianne Biles, /sI'moUn/baI@lzwas born on March 14 in 1997. The seven Olympic medals tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast, and is the ninth most overall. With 25 World Championship medals won, she is the most decorated gymnast in the time of the Gymnastics World Championships. Many believe that she may be the most successful gymnast of all time. [5] In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. Biles won individual gold medals in Rio de Janeiro's 2016 Summer Olympics. Bronze on balance beam, vault, and all-around were her awards. Biles also won bronze in the United States Team, which was known as"the "Final Five". She withdrew from the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics due to "the twisties" the air balance disorder which affects her ability to manage her balance. Biles was awarded an Olympic silver medal for the US team and the bronze medal on the balance beam. She was praised for her partial withdrawal, perseverance, and focus on safety, mental and physical health. She also is an all-around champion five times over, World all-around champion (2013-2015 (2018), 2018-2019) and five-time World floor exercise champion (2013-2015, 2018-2019) Three-time World balance beam champion (2014-2015, 2019) Two-time World vault champion (2018-2019), a seven-time United States national all-around champion (2013-2016 2018, 2018-2019, 2021) and a member of the gold medal-winning American teams at the 2014, 2015, 2018 and the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. She is also a World silver medalist on the balance beam (2013 and 2014) in 2013 and 2014, and a threetime World bronze medalist in vault (2015, 2013, and the year 2018 on bars that are uneven). Biles is the gymnast who has won the most World gold medals (19) and World medals (25) in the world. Biles also beats the record set by Vitaly Scherbo of 23 World medals. Biles won her 24th- and 25th place with gold medals at Stuttgart's 2019 competition. Biles holds the record for the highest number of all-around World titles (5). She's the sixth woman to win an individual all-around title both at the World Championships and the Olympics and is the first gymnast since Lilia Podkopayeva in 1996 to have both titles at the same time. Biles is the tenth and first American female gymnasts to win an overall World medal in every event. The feat was made during the 2018 World Championships. Biles was the youngest out of four siblings. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14 in 1997. The four children were all placed in foster care. When Shanon's grandchildren were being cared for in foster homes, Ron Biles (Biles' maternal grandfather) and Nellie Cayetano Biles (his second wife) began to temporarily care for Shanon in Spring, Texas. In 2003, the Biles family had officially adopted Simone and her younger sister Adria. Ron's sister Shanon's aunt Harriet adopted the oldest two kids.
